Abstract

Telling truth, forgiveness, kindness, honesty, non-violence etc. in the matters of moral education does not achieve much if we do not give the children an opportunity to bring these lofty things into life. In present times our moral values are also changing because due to urbanization, modern civilization, scientific outlook etc. new generation people do not want to stick to all the archaic ideology. Associating moral values with education does not mean that the burden of one more book should be put in the children's bag while getting heavier. Indians used to consider that knowledge as incomplete and shallow, which is not capable of self-realisation. The basic aim of education was to get salvation by getting rid of all debts. "Kastvanko'ham katu importah ko me janani ka me tatah" (Bhajgovindam Adi Shankaracharya), only Indian knowledge can provide answers to these questions. The purpose of value-based education in the Indian knowledge-tradition is mainly the development of devotion to God and spirituality, realization of Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram, character-building, development of all dimensions of personality, development of social duties, tradition and culture of the nation. Protection, emphasis on becoming knowledgeable and making, following religion and truthful conduct, establishing peaceful and pleasant coordination, coordination of knowledge and intelligence, establishing relationship between knowledge and action.
